Two clicker cats, training to perform on Broadway, have already made The New York Times.
Vito Vincent and Montie, clicker trained by Babette Corelli of Dawn Animal Agency, are vying for the role of Holly Golightly's cat in the Broadway production Breakfast at Tiffany's, which debuts at the Cort Theatre on March 20, 2013.
Ms. Corelli, who looks for animal "stars" that are sensible and self-assured, and unbothered by noises or people, used a clicker, verbal commands, and hand signals to direct the cats, after first determining each cat's preferred reward (food, toys, or, occasionally, affection).
Cats on stage can create some uncertain and exciting moments (Ms. Corelli is training understudy cats, "just in case"), but, like other animal performers, they can also add to the performance and charm the audience.
