Buddy is an "alert dog", a Bichon-Poodle type who takes very seriously his job in alerting me to anything going on outside our front door. Even if it is just a little bird hopping by.
Today 6 men are in my front yard, digging out old shrubs and raking out old rocks, preparing for a landscaping project. The are all over the place and making a lot of noise with the rock raking.
This could have been a bark-fest for Buddy if it hadn't been for our foundation of clicker training over the past several years. He knows what the clicker means and he is a fast learner and loves to learn new things. Today after a couple brief sessions of "let's ignore the garden invaders and have fun with the clicker and some juicy chicken, instead", Buddy is quietly napping a few feet from me at the computer and the garden workers a few yards outside our front window.
Buddy says: "Why go crazy when you can be calm and catching a few winks?!"
Sweet dreams.
