I have a young Papillon, Harry Potter, in training to be Peek's replacement as a service dog. At 13 months, he's showing extraordinary potential. He is a master at throwing behaviors to be reinforced, and picks up stuff so quickly at times I look at him and wonder if he's a Border collie.

Jumping Up: What Do You Do? Kay and Karen Talk
By Kay Laurence on 06/01/2003Recently I (Karen) participated in an online group discussion featuring Kay Laurence, the British clicker teacher and publisher of Teaching Dogs magazine. The topic came up of people who click for the right behavior during a training session, and at the same time use physical or verbal corrections for mistakes.
New Hampshire SPCA Clicks for Life!
By KPCT on 06/01/2003Susan Carney is Community Programs Manager at the New Hampshire SPCA in Stratham, New Hampshire. Spurred by the success of other New England shelters, her organization is planning to incorporate clicker training in their program. Earlier this spring Susan wrote to our Shelter Resource Center, "I've taken the hints and information from your shelter pack and I think we will be OK. I am really excited about all that I have learned. I am going to try to take a crack at training the staff myself. Our first training session is May 6th."
Clicker Service Dogs Learn to Dance
By Debi Davis on 06/01/2003From Debi Davis, service dog trainer: Karen, your heart would have soared if you'd seen the group who met in Delaware for a week last month. It was the very first clicker service dog conference, and it was out of this world wonderful. You would have loved seeing all the service dogs offering behaviors, all the upbeat handlers and happy dogs having a total blast learning. Having attended many service dog conferences, I can assure you this is NOT the norm. Force and coercion is still the mainstay in service dog training, so seeing this gathering of like-minded people all enjoying learning with their dogs just was too cool for words!
