Laev is Armed and Dangerous

Filed in - knife - counter surfing

So I was out of town at a convention for three days, leaving Laev home with Jon.  She was very good, he reported, on Friday and Saturday.

Apparently, by Sunday, she was bored.

She got into the trash, she surfed the counter for tempting treats left in reach.  Her worst moment was when she reached into the kitchen sink and took the 12" butcher knife used to cut her raw supper and ran about the house with it.  I'm a bit glad I wasn't there to see all that...!

Jon has been reminded of the importance of giving a dog like Laev a job to keep her occupied.  She can manage to be mannerly for a day or two, but three days with no mental work is just not reasonable and she will find a way (legal or no) to entertain herself.  The next time I leave them together, he'll be stuffing Kongs or hiding frozen toys, I'm sure.

Inky and Shakespeare were apparently model citizens, especially when compared to Laev.  Wink

Busting Boredom

Boredom leads to mischief-- no doubt about it it! In our kids, in our pets and in our lives! Excellent reminder that some 'behavior problems' aren't much more complicated than keeping our pets stimulated-- busting boredom!

Not a pretty sight

Phoebe has done that before... TWICE. We call her "our little pirate" because of it. It's scary seeing them run around with a knife, specially when they think it's a good time to play the keep-away game.

On the brighter side, that probably means she has no problem retrieving metal articles.

All the best for you, and congrats on the "cat issue" improvements.

twice?!

YEEK! Tell Phoebe to stop giving me nightmares (and Laev ideas!)! At least Laev never got a chance to develop keep-away as a game; we started "out" early and it's got a very strong reinforcement history....

And yeah, metal's no problem. I have photos of Laev's litter playing tug with handcuffs (breeder's husband is policeman) and pinch collars, and when she arrived her most favorite toy to steal was my keys. :) If we ever pull our head together enough for Utility, the metal articles won't be our issue.
