Maddie, a 6 month old flashy red boxer, joined our family yesterday. She flew in from Queensland and I collected her from the airport at lunchtime. Maddie is a gorgeous, gentle girl.
I introduced Max (our 12 month old boxer) to Maddie upon my return from the airport. I think Max is quite happy to have a doggie playmate! 24 hours later, things seem to be going well. they are, of course, working out who's boss of certain things and how much rough play will be tolerated etc. Max loves rough play and would play 24 hours a day if he could. Maddie enjoys it but needs a bit of time-out sometimes which max cannot quite understand. Maddie gets a bit frustrated by this.
I am new to clicker training and have ordered the kit. Excited about getting started when it arrives.
Max is a very boisterous boy and has had basic obedience training, but I have not been consistent enough and there are several areas we need to work on....especially, listening and following instruction when there are distractions about (dogs, people etc), and better tolerating meeting new people (he tends to be a bit timid). He has also begun to bark when people walk by our backyard fence. :(
One of these days, I would like to get Max involved in agility training.
That's about it for now.
