Hi everybody,
Let me introduce myself. I am a late 20-something gal living in the city of Chicago. I am a dog lover at heart. I grew up with rescue dogs my whole childhood. My mom couldn't resist a sad puppy look from an abandoned or abused dog. And so my love grew.....for ABSOLUTELY every dog. It wasn't until December of last year that I actually brought a dog into my own home. His name is Charlie and he is a solid black maltipoo. He looks like a little mini black cub. He is such a LOVER. We are definitely destined to work as a therapy dog! He just loves to cuddle. I give all the "good manners" credit to Laura Torelli's puppy-garten class. I was so blessed with Charlie that I decided to get Charlie a little sister from the same breeder. And this brings me to Karen Pryor's website. Mainly, because I need the clicker+ for the multidog home. But more importantly, I am STRUGGLING with Lucy. She is she EXACT opposite of Charlie. She seems to be fearful of other dogs/humans and she is showing signs of aggression. So with that said, I have purchased the "Click to Calm" book and with my clicker + I hope to be armed for the war :) I will get her with kindness and train her with the clicker based, humane trainging. She's a little bit excited ALL the time. Think "tasmanian puppy" 19 hours a day! But we're going to get there. I think she'll be more likely to do agility thing. But I LOVE the concept of clicker based training. And with this blog I hope to start my journey and story of gentle dog training.
Welcome, Charlie, Lucy, and you too!
How old is Lucy? Mercifully some of that energy does slow down over time!
It's so interesting how different they are.
I too use "Click to Calm" with one of my dogs, the one who is too dog-aggressive.
BTW, we've met your dogs, what is YOUR name?

Thanks for your interest!
Thanks for your interest! My name is Megan. I am excited to have found this website! My dog trainer introduced me to the Karen Pryor method. And I find that it truly is a humane way of training. I have always had an interest in psychology, and the animal behavior aspect of dog training is really so interesting. I am diving in head first into all the literature. When I got Charlie, he was such a lover I knew he would make a great therapy dog. He is well on his way.
I hope to update my blog on a regular basis. Maybe my story will help others out there that are experiencing similar situations. And of course, feedback is always welcome. Have a paw-fect day!
