"Guide to a Well Behaved Parrot" is a collection of the acquired wisdom of Mattie Sue Athan who has been a pet bird problem solver for many years. She tells what she has found to work in different situations with the birds she has worked with.
Written in 1993, this book violates the first rule: no books written before about 2003 (except "Don't Shoot the Dog"). So, right off, I need to be suspect of the methods for training. The book does talk about dominance, but it also talks about how punishment and neglect don't do anything positive.
I would not use this as a "Parrot Behavior Bible", but it is a good read if you take the good and filter the rest. I would not consider this an essential reference, but the stories are helpful.
So far, my list of 3 essential parrot books only has one entry: Clicker Training with Birds by Melinda Johnson.
