This weekend we did a bit more trainging. She is getting really good at coming to the targeting stick. We also continued to work on comming when called. She is also getting better and better at that. Although some times she runs right past me or she gets distracted by something on the way. I'm starting to clicker when she sits since that too will be good work on. So if she comes to me when she hasn't been called, but then sits I'll still click her. My husband says that I'm clicking her for too many variety of actions and it will confuse her, but I told him that according to the book that is okay. She will figure it out in time.
The targeting stick came in really handy on Saturday. She escaped down into the basement, which is off-limits to her (so of course that is where she most wants to go). She got to an area that was currently blocked off by some stuff we had stored there, so we couldn't easily get her to bring her out of the basement. My husband was trying to get her in his "brute - force" way. I then said. Wait, let me get her stick. So I got the stick and the clicker. I brought them down and called her so she could see the stick. She then walked out to the stick. I clicked her, grabed her and took her up stairs. It worked very well.
She also showed off her skills at coming to the stick when it is presented to some friends. She had just woken up from her nap on the top of the couch, when I pulled out her stick and the clicker. She causuall got up. Did some streaches, then slowly walked over and touched the stick. It was cute to see her do it all in her own timing but still doing it.
