I have a 9 month old male Papillon. He is a very gentle and well mannered dog. I have taught him 2 tricks, speak and dance. He likes playing with his many, many toys, he likes to play "fetch" although we are still working on "drop". There is no agreesion in the household at all.
He likes to eat anything that is on the ground, in the past I was able to get it out of his mouth with no problems, however there have been 2 times this week were he has gotten a hold of something he should not have and has lunged, barked, bared teeth almost to the point of wanting to attack me. It has scared me alot to the point of crying because I was afraid of him, I love him and I don't want him to do that when I need to take something out of his mouth that he should not have.
The first time, he got a hold of a chicken bone by accident and when I tried to take it away he tried to "attack" me. The second time was last night, he some how got a hold of a safety pen that was open, now he has done this before and I have been able to take it out of his mouth with no problem except last night when he did the same "attack" sequence. He has never bitten me but he has lunged at me with teeth baring and snarling.
How do I teach him to drop things or be able to get things out of his mouth without him be agreesive like that?
Any help with this issue will save my relationship with my baby.
Thank you, Hollie Christison
