I wanted to take the time today to note a very important lesson I've learned when living in a multidog household. Train each dog separately! I have been living with two puppies for the last month or so. From day one I've been trying to incorporate our clicker training while on our walks, at home, meal times, etc. I was using the same techniques as when it was just big brother Charlie and myself. But now that it is little Lucy and big brother Charlie I have been facing a few challenges. One of the biggest ones was how to capture Lucy's good behavior with the click. How was I to do this and not give Charlie a treat? I didn't want to water down the click, it's too important. I tried the Clicker + but I found that a bit difficult for me, juggling two leashes, puppies going in opposite directions, and switching the sounds on the clicker +. And it is just too difficult to focus on both dogs, especially when they each deserve your undivided attention. I feel this is especially important in the beginning, when you're building the foundation of good dog manners. Each day I continue to learn.
Many thanks go to this website for all that it has to offer!
