So today we went back to the park for another play date with Jack and his mom Iris. The dogs were all really tired from busy weekends so their play style was a bit more subdued than usual. They would fetch, but then flop down in the grass panting! Maggie and Jack were lying side by side until I pulled out my camera! Stinkers!
There were about 7 other dogs at the park today, including the three Poodles from a time before and a new (and wild!) Boxer boy. The Boxer was able to keep up with Etta running. I've not yet met a dog who could do that, and even she looked really surprised!
The Boxer initially came at us quickly and Jack went over and sort of body slammed him away from "his girls". Jack is a bog boy and it sounded like a truck hit him. The other dog did not seem to notice, but Etta decided to rush over, too. She is really kind of a weenie, but always willing to have a pal's back in a brawl! Luckily they were all quite good natured and played fine, Jack immediately relaxed. I think Jack was just really put off by this dog's approach. I've known him for three years and I've never seen anything like that from him.
The Poodles did come up to us again and the smaller one did steal Maggie's toy again (luckily she actaully on leash this time so I got it back, grrr). We kept walking and talking and they did not stick around long.
I did get some really nice drop on recall practice done with both dogs. We do tandem drop on recalls! Iris actually mentioned how much stronger Maggie's recall was this week and how much more frequently she is checking in without being asked! It is really cool to have it pay off and be noticed!
