Today began clicker training for our 6-week-old German Shepherd, Greta (please, no comments on her age, she's from a reputable breeder and had to be adopted at this age). We worked on housetraining, of course, and also crate training and biting/mouthing-- and not forgetting the random clicks for sheer cuteness ("waving" gott love it!). I'm happy to say that with just 3 sessions today, she seems much happier. She's more comfortable in her crate and she's more aware of her teeth when she plays. She seems to really try not to bite or to mouth very gently! It's hard to see if the gears are turning in her head as far as housetraining, but seeing the results of the other issues, I think it's fair to assume that she's getting it.
I'm getting it too! I'm not a trainer by any means, just a stay-at-home mom and dog lover. It's so much less stressful than "traditional" means of training. I think tomorrow may begin clicker training for our 2-year-old Pug, Goliath, as well. He could use a refresher on the appropriate area to eliminate in the yard and some help controlling his barking (our poor mailman!).
I'm so happy to have found this site!
