Timneh African Grey
(Psittacus erithacus timneh)
Timneh African Grey parrots are smaller in size than the Congo African Grey, have a darker charcoal gray coloring, a darker maroon tail, and a light, horn-coloured upper mandible. A Timneh is often called a "TAG".
Timneh have been noted as being more relaxed and easy going than their counterparts the Congo. They are and can be very affectionate if given the right love and attention back. They are highly intelligent and will talk whether you are around or not if they so choose. They are very clever and are amazing gymnasts, enjoying hanging upside down in their cage and swinging, all the while making a joyful noise that can only make one laugh.
I truly think that the Timneh is often highly underrated compared to the Congo African Grey parrots. I encourage those thinking of getting an African Grey to consider the Timneh African Grey - a smart, fun, and quite sweet companion parrot for you and the whole family!
