Day 1, clicker training.
Will started out today by clicking and giving them treats. All three cats seemed into that, but only Moxie appeared to make the connection. Within a few minutes, he had her touching the target (chopsticks) and getting rewarded. Rodney was the first to wander off, with Basil soon becoming disinterested as well.
Later on in the evening (after dinner) I took a few short minutes to train. All three again came for the clicking and the treats, but after a minute or two of me expecting more of them, Basil left and went to go lie down on the bed. He watched, but seemed utterly disinterested. Moxie again got into it, and I managed to teach her to sit up and follow the target to get food. Very enthusiastic. She was even swatting at my hand so that she could lick the treat residue off my hands! Rodney seemed a little bit more interested. He didn't leave the training area at all, but just watched Moxie. He doesn't like to interrupt games the other cats are playing, so we may need to separate him out for his own training. Still, I got him to press his nose and paw against the target, which is great! I think he's getting it. Maybe Basil does too, but he just doesn't care or wasn't hungry. Who knows?
We're not supposed to be training all three at once, but so far it doesn't seem to matter. I think we're going to end up spending a lot of money on treats now....
