Here's a wonderful article about a zoo that has calmly and completely converted to clicker training. Zookeepers at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, use operant conditioning and clicker training on almost all of the animals at the zoo.
“We can use operant conditioning with all species,” said Christie Eddie, curator of small mammals. “Many behaviors are trained, such as targeting, scale training, crating, shifting, ultrasound, injection acceptance, routine medication acceptance.”
The zookeepers aren’t the only ones who are wild about clicker training. The animals at the Henry Doorly Zoo enjoy less stressful handling and medical care as well as the mental and physical stimulation that clicker training provides. Even the alligators line up and wait their turns for training!
