Your dog may be the love of your life or your faithful companion, but what do you do when you don't always dig your dog's behavior? If your dog is fearful, reactive, destructive, or just out-of-control, we have solutions. In this month's feature article "Desperately Seeking Snoozing—How to Help Your Dog Relax," KPA faculty member Nan Arthur, author of Chill Out, Fido, offers tips to calm your crazy canine.

Don't forget that May 20-26 is Dog Bite Prevention Week 2012. Of the approximately 4.7 million dog bites that occur each year, 50% affect children. Joan Orr outlines how you can promote a safe and healthy dog/child relationship in Help Dogs and Kids Be Comfortable Together: Dog Bite Prevention Week May 20-26, 2012.

Many behavior problems can be prevented by working with your dog as a puppy. In this month's podcast Debbie Martin, author of Puppy Start Right: Foundation Training for the Companion Dog, talks about how you and your puppy can start on the right paw!

Karen Pryor Academy Featured Certified Training Partner
Brad Waggoner
Brad Waggoner

A crossover trainer, Brad began training his own dogs 14 years ago. In 2003, he learned about positive reinforcement training and never looked back. Brad was officially "bitten by the training bug" in 2008 when he and his wife attended ClickerExpo. It was then that he decided to join his wife, Lisa, as a fulltime dog trainer with Cold Nose College and make a commitment to expand his training education. In 2010, Brad was awarded the prestigious B. F. Skinner scholarship to attend Karen Pryor Academy.

"We work closely with many of the veterinarians in the area and they really appreciate education. They see the value in referring to an educated trainer, and they recognize that being a KPA CTP is proof of being an educated trainer. What I learned from my studies through KPA has helped me work better with my human clients as well."

Since Brad graduated from KPA, Brad and Lisa's training business has doubled.

"We're now not only offering classes and doing private training, but also offering workshops, seminars, and other learning opportunities for dog lovers and professionals," says Brad.

When he isn't busy solving problems for clients, Brad volunteers as a School Education Program volunteer at the Valley River Humane Society, helping students learn about rewards-based training, pet safety, and dog-bite prevention.
