Puppy Start Right: Teaching Puppy Classes – Debbie Martin
In this Session, Debbie Martin, author of the KPCT book Puppy Start Right and the new Puppy Start Right for Instructors course from Karen Pryor Academy, will discuss the importance of offering puppy socialization classes, and why all trainers should provide a class for dogs younger than four months of age. Attendees will learn about the benefits of offering puppy socialization classes, the format and goals of these classes, and how to promote the service effectively.

In this Session, attendees will learn the factors which place a puppy at risk for conflict-related aggression and some methods for its prevention. Julie Shaw will discuss ways that trainers can use clicker training to help the pet owner develop consistent and predictable interactions with at-risk puppies and move them out of the danger zone. The Session will include video of puppies diagnosed with conflict-related aggression by a referral animal behavior clinic.
This Method, This Dog, This Time: Using the Learning Continuum – Kay Laurence
This Session will examine and utilize the learning continuum as a guide for choosing how to teach our dogs. Attendees will study the strengths and weaknesses of different learning methods, the skills required for teaching each method, and the conditions that may affect the choice. Join Kay and enhance your teaching by learning to select the teaching method that is best for one learner, at one moment, and for a positive behavioral outcome.
