Clickin' the Pug, vol. 20

Filed in - pugs - clicker training

We worked on something new yesterday. During our afternoon session I decided to work on name recognition. Frankie will, most of the time, look up when you call her name. Now I'm not sure whether she actually recognizes her name, or she's just looking at me because some sort of sound has come out of my mouth. It's hard to work on this when I'm training by myself because Frankie will always look at me anyway to see what she needs to do next. So in our evening session, I gave clickers to my hubby and daughter. I instructed them to wait until she's looking somewhere else, then call her name. I told them only to use her name once, and to whistle or make kissy noises if she doesn't respond the first time. So we all alternated doing this while watching tv. It was very effective. Frankie never knew who was going to call her, and she'd run up to the person she though would do it next. However, as I'm sitting her typing upstairs, I've called her (she's downstairs) and she hasn't responded. Maybe that's what we'll work on tonight...lol!

In other news...the freezing rain storm we were supposed to have last night passed us by. It hit the Columbia River Gorge area instead. Good for us...bad for them.

That's all for now!
