There’s no doubt that this year’s mud-slinging presidential election is one of the most divisive elections in our nation’s history. In an effort to dodge awkward political discussions and avoid clashes, many people are limiting their social connections. If you feel that this year has been so politically divisive that you can’t connect with people, try talking about your dogs!
Dogs bring us together, initiating friendly encounters at parks and on the streets. No matter what race, religious beliefs, or political views describe and define us, when we are wearing sweatshirts marked with muddy paw prints and dog hair, our pockets stuffed with poop bags and treats, we find common ground. With dog owners representing more than 50% of the U.S. population, there is plenty of common ground to be found!
So grab your leash and leave your political views behind—they’re not needed at the dog park!
