My dog Prissy is a toy poodle. She turned 10yrs in Janurary of 2007. All her life I've been trying to teach her to "stand". To stand with four on the floor. I thought this would be useful for a lot of things. For grooming, the Vet, to go to the next trick etc. I used traditional methods coaxing, luring, posing her etc. Nothing ever worked. But when I got my first clicker about a year ago I wasn't sure what to teach her. She already knew everything I wanted her to know except.....how to stand on cue. So I charged the clicker then everytime she started to stand or stood I Click/treat. After a few minutes she began to "throw" stands at me. She would either sit or lie down then stand. So I started adding the cue. This is the first and best success I have had with the clicker. Prissy learned the "stand" in just a few minutes when I had been trying to teach her for years. The only mistake she makes is when I mess up. I like to use both hand signals and verbal cues. That way I can get her to do something without saying it. I often times give a hand signal similar to the one I use for "down" so I have to correct myself and remember to use the other hand signal. I love my Clicker lol!
Prissy P.S.
I forget to mention she also had a problem with popping out of the "down" before I released her and I was also able to fix this using the Clicker.
