hi, i have a 7 month old border collie dog called max and as lovely as he is he is a very energetic dog. i walk him alot although even after a 3 hour walk he will still have lots of evergy and the problem we are having is that he likes to pull me around when he is on his lead. i have tried using treats, getting him to stop and sit, keeping him on a shorter lead etc but nothing seems to work and i am desperate for some suggestions as i am struggling very much to walk him. i know that border collies need alot of exercise but i am going round in circles as i cant help him burn off his energy if i cant walk him properly. if anyone can be of help their advise will be very much appreciated
And
Jenny is completely right.
For additional help I suggest you start thinking about things to do that engage his brain, not only his legs. He will still need loads of exercise, though ;o)
But if he were mine I would go home and throw his foodbowl away. Let him work for dinner - use his food as treats to teach him fun stuff, and to teach obedienceskills too, Let him search for some of his food, e.g. out on the lawn (if you have a secure fenced in garden) and put some of his food in safe toys like the Kong (which can be frozen for extra challenge) or some of the interactive toys found on this website.
best of luck
and hurry down to that (positive) trainingcenter!
