Senior Health Issues vs Quality of Life

Filed in - Toxic Ingestion - Stroke

Our Family Dog is 13 years old he's suffered a minor stroke. His life is no longer happy. Our lives are riddled with frequent expenses from the vet. Our vet bhas made it difficult to go forward with putting him down. I feel their only defense in not making it easier for me to make a decision to put him down.

The vet and their staff keep looking for ways to add to the bottom line I fell victomized financialy. The decision is hard enough now there making me feel guilty.

What do I do?

putting him down

I have had to make this very decision numerous times. It is difficult and necessary one that will need to made by every pet owner. if your vet refuses to perform this service, just to milk you out of more fees, find another vet, many shelters do provide this service. To cause continued suffering of a pet is not necessary. Please don't try to do the old farmer route. this is not a "do it yourself" thing.

That is terrible. You are

That is terrible. You are in a tough enough position without your vet being like that. We are in a similar position, but our vet has put it entirely in our hands & is helping us with therapy until we make the decision.

If I was in your position, I would probably change vets permanently.

honestly

find another vet!
I feel for you - it's a hard time you are going through, but you and your vet is obviously not compatible - you have already made the hard decision about your dog's health situation and that means there are only two options: either stand fast and insist on teh euthanasia, or go somewhere else. I think you should choose the latter of those options. You might have other animals or at some point decide to get a new dog, and you will never be happy with your current vet again, so you might as well find another one now.
