Reaching the Animal Mind Awarded Best Training Book of 2009

Waltham, MA, January 23, 2010—Karen Pryor Clicker Training (KPCT) today announced that Reaching the Animal Mind has been named “Best Training and Behavior Book” by the Dog Writer’s Association of America (DWAA). The award was presented to Karen Pryor at the DWAA 2010 Annual Awards Banquet in New York City, an annual event that recognizes bodies of work that reflect DWAA’s mission—to encourage quality writing about dogs as athletes, competitors and, most of all, our beloved companions.

Reaching the Animal Mind is the latest book by Karen Pryor, who has been writing and teaching about humane, science-based animal training for decades. In her illuminating new book, Pryor reveals how modern, force-free training methods bring out the undiscovered creativity, intelligence, and personality of the animals in our lives.

“I am thrilled that the DWAA has recognized Reaching the Animal Mind,” said Pryor. “This award represents a major shift in the dog world as people begin to understand that there is a better alternative to traditional, punishment-based training and I’m thankful that world-class organizations such as the DWAA are helping to bring this to light.”

The DWAA was founded in 1935 when a small group of newspaper and magazine journalists, whose editors occasionally sent them to cover dog shows and events, decided to form a pack. Since then, the DWAA has expanded its worldwide membership to more than 500, representing every area of the media. For more information, visit www.dwaa.org.
