I would like some advice on using a non reward mark as part of clicker training techniques please. I have clicker trained a 3 year old weimaraner dog (who is very pushy) to cease mouthing and nipping along with over excitable behaviour, but he will occasionally regress almost like an extinction burst and catch his owner and me unawares.
I have thought about using a non reward mark as he does this as a verbal correction but i have always tended to avoid this technique in the past. Would love to hear anybodys views!!! thankyou.

I couldnt agree more with the article you suggested i read. I have always perceived that utilising a sound ( however neutral) as a valid NRM could be received by the dog as a form of punishment ( almost a verbal correction?). For some dogs this would surely become a barrier to learning and will limit the desired response you actually get from the dog.
I have found that just waiting out the dog and removing all interaction between you and dog at the time of the unwanted behaviour and stepping in the instant the desired behaviour occurs results in a happier and stronger response.
