This Is Laev - a Belated Introduction

Filed in - introduction - training - puppy - sport - photo

Laev's had her own blog for well over a year now, so I forgot that not everyone will be familiar with her already. So this is Laev in a nutshell....

Her name is Ascomannis Laevatein. She's named for the weapon belonging to the mythical Norse god Loki, a word which can be roughly translated "Wand of Destruction." (Yes, I knew what she would be!) For short she's Laev, pronounced by her mid-American handler as "Lehv" or "Lay-ev" when summoned from a distance.

She's a February 2005 puppy, currently about 18 months old. She's a Doberman from distinguished working lines with many Schutzhund dogs, active police dogs, and SAR dogs in her immediate family. Because her breeder is in Denmark, where it's illegal to crop and dock, Laev has natural ears and tail.

Here's the obligatory embarrassing puppy photo:

Fortunately she grew up a bit! Here's Laev at 14 months, in our only foray into conformation at UDC Nationals this year. (I was shaping the stack in the ring -- how I love savvy OC dogs!)

And finally, this is what Laev likes to do best:

Laev with tug

I like a variety of sports and activities, and Laev enjoys everything we do, but she lives for bitework. This is her on a tug toy with John Soares. She thinks this is great fun.

Laev is 100% clicker trained for all of her obedience and manners. Her protection work is nearly entirely clicker training as well, but she wears a customized prong collar for her own safety during most bitework, even though the collar is never used for P+.

Well, that's Laev. Now maybe you can get a visual while reading of her exploits. :-)  We'll be at ClickerExpo in March -- wave us down and say hello!

beautiful

She is so beautiful. I have followed her here and on clickersolutions, it is great to see her :o)
And I love that she has her ears and tail, I think dobermanns are beautiful and elegant with those intact. Of course, being Danish, I am used to seeing them like that ;o)

Neat photos!

I got a kick out of the "embarrassing obligatory puppy photo." And her "grown up a bit" photo is beautiful. Both are rotating on my screen saver. Thanks for posting them.
