Clicker Training Amazing Sea Monkeys

Filed in - Amazing Sea Monkeys

My son. who clicker trains our dog and parrot with me, got some amazing sea monkeys from a friend for Christmas.  They will hatch tomorrow.  I jokingly asked, "Are you going to clicker train them?"  He responded, "Of course - if you can train a gold fish, I can ceratinly train a sea monkey!"

I am not so sure.  In fact I am really pretty sure you can't train a brine shrimp - but, I could be wrong.  We will let you know how it goes.  It would make a great book for the "Other Animals" section  - Clicker Training Amazing Sea Monkeys.  Maybe he can get invited to speak at the Clicker Expo.  Maybe I will start a mailing list: SeaMonkey-Click.  If we make a DVD and start doing 5 day training camps maybe I can start a new full-time career.

I do believe that my son will try it - he knows how to click, but he doesn't know much about Sea Monkeys yet.

An old ad for Sea Monkeys

An old ad for Sea Monkeys claims:

"so eager to please, they can even be trained"

"Best of all, we even show you how to teach them to obey your commands like a pack of friendly trained seals. What a way to surprise your guests."

How about that? You can find this ad at:

Training Sea Monkeys

Here is an entry from the Sea Monkey FAQ at
http://www.grandpasgeneral.com/shop/seamonkeys.php

What is Sea-Monkey Training?

In the instruction booklet that comes with your new Sea-Monkeys Ocean Zoo, there is information on how to "train" your pet Sea-Monkeys.
They are very sensitive to light and you can do some amazing things with sea monkeys, by turning off the lights and using a flash light near the Sea-Monkey's tank.

As far as primary reinforcers, here is a link to the "Sea Monkey Banana Treats"

Apparently, there is a lot more Sea Monkey Training going on than I ever imagined.

Light as a reinforcer?

...that sounds like something worth experimenting with!

What are a Sea Monkey's Primary Reinforcers?

Hi BlueHairBob, any idea what a sea monkey needs and how you might control it (without killing them)?

I had a discussion about training a snake once. The difficulty was that this particular snake apparently had to have live food, all in one go, and was only fed once a week (or something like that).

I figured we could probably control the heat sources in the snake's enclosure, but it all got a bit difficult.

Aidan
