Clicker training, from the home to the shelter

A reader sent us this wonderful story by email:
Hi Karen,
We had heard about clicker training several years ago, but quickly dismissed it as our 11 year old dog is terrified of any electronic clicking sound-so much so that he once destroyed 2 interior door handles, scratched the doors and attempted to dig through an exterior door and wall in his effort to escape when the electronic air filter started clicking one day we weren't home.

I'm Clicking in the Rain...Just Clicking in the Rain

In New England, the sun finally began to show up just before dusk on Tuesday, after 5 days of heavy, soaking rains. Some people can't stand being out in the rain. My neighbors are lovely, intelligent people with a delightfully rambunctious Portuguese water dog that, due to the torrential downpours and their dislike of rainy walks, hadn't been out much.

Learning by observation

Sylvia B. wrote in with the following story:

I trained all four of my dogs do a pretty "sit-stay" for me, all lined up in our kitchen, while I cut up some treats instead of having them out of control trying to see what I was doing.

Dogs trained to sniff out fake DVDs?

I have no idea how this is possible, but a group in the UK is claiming success!
Two black Labradors have become the world's first dogs to be trained to search for counterfeit DVDs, a trade organisation have said. The dogs, Lucky and Flo, have been trained to detect discs to help combat DVD piracy, the Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) said.

Find A Dogwalker

I don't know anything about the dog walkers they link to so this isn't an endorsement, but I think it's a great idea! Anyone know of a dog walker on this list? Are there other lists like this that you'd like to see?
