parrot

Coco accepts the flock for the first time!

When I first got Coco, I was just a little afraid that even though I believe that just about any parrot can be tamed with abundant positive reinforcement that I might not be able to pull it off - but we have.

How long does it take to get a parrot?

There are two ways to get a parrot fast: 1) buy one at a pet store with no planning on a whim, or 2) be known as someone who will take in an unwanted bird and give them a loving home.  Of course, in order to do the second option, you have to have put in the long hard work to become that person.

DVD Review #1: Parrot Behavior & Training (Part 1): Introduction to Training by Barbara Heidenreich

OK, this is an essential DVD.  Of the several that I have watched so far, "Parrot Behavior & Training (Part 1): Introduction to Training by Barbara Heidenreich" is the best.

Book Review #4: Guide to a Well Behaved Parrot by Mattie Sue Athan

I would not use this as a "Parrot Behavior Bible", but it is a good read if you take the good and filter the rest.  I would not consider this an essential reference, but the stories are helpful.

Coco's first visit to the Vet

He didn't have a microchip, so we had one installed (it doesn't actually give you any control functions, just identification).
