As the ClickerExpo conference in Norfolk, VA, approaches, we’re highlighting each of our Taste of ClickerExpo live broadcast partners, and sharing exciting news about them!

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is Iowa's largest nonprofit animal shelter, caring for many thousands of pets each year. The ARL serves people and pets from across the state of Iowa through its programs, which include pet adoption, humane education, pet behavior training, spay/neuter, animal cruelty intervention, and much more. The ARL has grown dramatically since its founding in 1926—expanding programs that serve both people and homeless animals across Iowa. The most obvious growth is the number of animals the ARL provides shelter and care for each year. Intakes have increased annually from a few thousand animals a decade ago to more than 17,000 animals in 2012.

On Friday, February 21, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa assisted local authorities in Davis County in the rescue of nearly 300 animals, represented by nearly 30 different species. Goats, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, ducks, pigeons, quail, mice, hamsters, degus, sugar gliders, and hissing cockroaches were just some of the animals on the property in Drakesville, Iowa. The local animal shelter took the one dog and two cats back to their shelter and the remaining animals were loaded up for the nearly 2-hour drive back to Des Moines. “We were so relieved when we saw [the ARL] arrive,” one of the local reporters told us. “There is no one else who could handle something like this.” Read more about this story.
