Winter may be officially winding down, but in many places there is still plenty of snow on the ground! In this excerpt from their book Beyond Squeaky Toys: Innovative ideas for eliminating problem behaviors and enriching the lives of dogs and cats, authors Nicole Nicassio-Hiskey and Cinthia Alia Mitchell offer tips for fun in the snow – with your dog!
Most dogs love to run and running in the snow is great exercise. The next time you go snowshoeing, sledding, or hiking in the snow, take the dog! Many dogs enjoy rooting, sniffing, digging and rolling in the snow. Try tossing treats or a favorite toy in the deep snow to encourage your dog to use its excellent sense of smell to locate the items. If your dog has short hair be sure to bring a dog coat and booties. (dogs, cats, supervised).
